So? Email contains plain text. Web pages contain html. Only Microsoft thins
otherwise.

That sounds a bit odd -- when that happens to me, I am given an option
to either Edit the posting or Force the posting with the long line.

Secondly, it shouldn't be generated when looking at a header. Are you
running a local newsserver, or something like slrnpull?

Ah I just found that setting. Changing it to 2 would be better, that's
what gives the warning and option I mentioned in my previous post.

1. What are your system specs?
2. which mpeg player are you using?
3. which Xfree86 version are you using (or: which distribution+version?)

search the net, take a look at http://www.freshmeat.net, i don't know, but if
there exist one, you will find it ;-)

4. what does your /var/log/messages tell you? You can easily see that by:
a. open an xterm and use the command 'tail -f /var/log/messages'
b. open another xterm and try to dial in
now on the first xterm some messages will appear: what does it say?

And if you have answered all those questions: we can help you :-)

Subject: Yast-Like for RedHat
Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2000 16:51:51 +0200

Hi there!

I have been using SuSE for a long time. Now I installed RedHat 6.2 (only to
see how it's like).
I am missing something like Yast in RedHat. Is there any other Config Tool
(other than linuxconf) that doesn't run under X? The documentation shipped
with the Standard Edition is very poor (maybe one of the poorest I've ever
seen) and doesn't point to any post-install tool.

Some comments:
At this time I am very disappointed with RedHat and I wonder why so many
people are using it!? Why does RedHat ship only few packages with the
standard edition? Standard, Deluxe and Professional Edition kind of reminds
me of Microsoft.

Even the Modem and Internet Access Tools didn't work, which is kind of
neccesary to access the online documentation, so that I had to configure it
manually (with SuSE Kppp or wvdial config worked without problems).

For those who haven't decided yet I highly recommend SuSE

Run the badblocks program and have it mark all the bad blocks so they are not
used. Make sure the the partition is not mounted though. Ive never had to use it
so best to read the man pages on it.

No, don't fix it. E-mail should be in plain text.

It's an educational feature, not a bug.

Hi to all!

Well I am running the RedHat v6.2 on a single CPU Pentium III 450Mhz
system with 128MB RAM at 100Mhz with a Creative Labs Riva TNT, and i
got, repeatly, the following error message:

ATAPI device hdd:

The failed "Prevent/Allow medium removal" packet command was:
"1e 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00"

I don't know the reason of the above message, the device hdd is a IBM

You should be able to select the text to copy by dragging the mouse
across it. That puts the text into the clipboard without an additional
keystroke. Then you can paste it with the middle mouse button.

At least it works this way on my system...

i have just recently begun using ka.pl, aperl script obtainable from
freshmeat.net
you can use the process name instead of numbers e.g. ka.pl netscape

The beauty of it is, it can give you a list of same-name processes so you
can select which one to kill, or kill em all, DOOM-style ;-)

Let me add to this that when you start seeing bad blocks hard drive failure
is likely to be imminent or about to happen. I'd look into replacing the
drive ASAP. If you can't do that, then a full backup of important data,
programs and settings is a good alternative. A bad alternative is to be
surprised when it does fail and lose it all.... Good luck, /ts

PPPOE is the money making way (for the ISP) in providing DSL as it requires
signing in; also have read somewhere it also disconnects one for inactivity.
PPPOE is NOT "always connect", it is like the old dial-up modems at a
faster connection; avoid if possible.

Is this a general rule? I ask, because I never had problems with drive
failures when bad blocks showed up. I always thought it's a normal
process (in fact, happening all the time, but the user doesn't notice
it because of the drive using backup sectors automatically).
