Hi all, I just installed RH6.2 update-2 on my machine (KDE option with GUI
intallation) and the first thing I've noticed is thakppp can only be run by
root. When I try to run kppp as a user it compalins that the server refuses
to connect to 0:0 or something to that effect. As far as I can see there is
no permissions problem kppp is 777.
Does anyone know how to fix that?
Thanks,

Hi all, Does anyone know how to configure Caldera's kppp ( ksafeppp) for
mutiple ISPs?
I installed eDesktp 2.4 and I can't see how to chose connections between
ISPs without going every single time to the system menu and retyping all DNS
and access numbers all over again.
Thanks,

Note that the term "peecee" is often used as a term of mild derision by
old-timers; see alt.sysadmin.recovery, for example.

The documentation with GTK+ is inadequate. Get thee to a bookstore.
How far have you got? To call a function from a button press, you need to
attach it to the button with gtk_signal_connect:
gtk_signal_connect(
GTK_OBJECT(left_button),
"clicked",
GTK_SIGNAL_FUNC(send_left),
some_pointer);
where left_button is the GtkWidget * variable returned from
gtk_button_new_with_label, send_left is the function that will send the
"L" character, and some_pointer is an arbitrary pointer that will be passed
to send_left. some_pointer can be NULL if you don't need it.
send_left should be declared like this:
void send_left(GtkWidget *widget, void *ptr);
where widget will be left_button and ptr will be some_pointer.

This isn't really "the next desktop" but another page on your current
desktop; a window on the current page can extend into another page.
Click the toolbox, then choose "Window Manager". Press the button to run
the configuration tool for Enlightenment. One of the options there (I
forget which, and I have KDE active anyway) is to select the number of
pages on each desktop. Move the horizontal and vertical sliders to 1, and
click OK.
Or you can make this function less sensitive, so that the mouse needs to
move farther to trigger the switch. This is in the same option.

Subject: How can I generate glibconfig.h ?
Date: Sun, 02 Jul 2000 01:27:13 +0100
Hello all,
I tried to compile glitter using make after running ./configure and i got
this message :
/usr/include/glib:66: glibconfig.h : No such file or directory
I made some searches on the Internet and found this problem could be due
to :
_ glib-devel not installed but I have it installed
_ glibconfig.h not being in the right directory but I dont even
have glibconfig.h on my system. I did a find on the whole sys
and I cant find it.
So my question is how do I generate glibconfig.h. I thought I could do
that by using glib-config --cflags or glib-config --libs but that has not
worked.
Thanks in advance,

Not far ! - just been running through the tutorials trying to figure it
all out.
What books (if any) would you recommend ? - I've found "GTK+ Programming
in C" by Syd Logan on Amazon but it's gonna take about a month to get
it.
Hmmm....it's looking like my "Robot Feedback Panel" is gonna be a bit
more difficult to implement than I had first thought :(

Yeah, I've been getting to grips with the widgets and callbacks and
stuff (slowly !) but it's the port bit that is getting me.
I can't find any "Idiots Guide to Sending Stuff to Serial Ports" info.
Oh well, better get my reading hat on.....

In any case, a prime rule of computer security is that there is nothing to
be gained by relying on outside information if the source of the
information is not under your control. If someone knew that your software
was checking the drive for a serial number they could write a kernel patch
to satisfy your condition.
If you really want to protect your information (and program) from improper
use your only real option is to use a hardware decryption device-- you
store data to disk encrypted with the public key and "play it back"
through a device containing the private key. Just don't make the mistake
the DVD manufacturers did with their CSS encryption.... :-P

There may be a few files that should be chmod 777, but kppp is *NOT* one
of them.
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 414960 Mar 28 00:27 /opt/kde/bin/kppp
That corresponds to a mode of 4755, which is probably what you want. kppp
is usually SUID as it needs access to the raw serial device.
Read the documentation that came with kppp; they talk about this gotcha,
the various ways of fixing it, and the security implications thereof.

Dear Martin Skj=F6ldebrand,
After you soundon OSS please firstly try
cat /dev/sndstat
If see:

1: MS Sound System (CS4231)
Mixers:

Then your config sound is NOT complete because no Synth devices:
But If see:

Then your sound config is completely correct and should able to play
everything.
Please remember to turn on mixer correctly also.

How does one add that transparent console box in X that runs a
tail on whichever log file. I have seen it in most, if not all,
screenshots and would like to have it tail -f /var/log/messages
and would like it to start up in a certain position and
dimensions as the wm starts.
I am currently running BlackBox. I havent seen anything about
this in the docs, but then again I cant even add docapps and

I think glibconfig.h is generated when you run ./configure.
(And you only do that when you're compiling it, so you'll need to get the
glib source and run ./configure. An entire compile shouldn't be necessary
though).

I found the tutorials fine for the main widgets like Itemfactory, menu and
buttons...
The big problem I ran into was figuring out how to draw lines using the gdk
calls. I wanted a container widget for drag and drop icons [which I
managed] but can't figure out how to draw lines between them...
(My final year project at university was a Digital Circuit Simulator using
Gtk... It works... But it's a bit messy without lines to indicate
connections between the gates. Still, I got 56% for it in the end...).
The tutorial seems to miss out a lot of important details on some of the
widgets, such as the drawing_area_widget.

If it's any help, a quick dig around on my system came up with the
Serial-Programming-HOWTO... That should cover what you need for sending your
data to the stepper motor.
