Hi,

I'm trying to read from a DLT tape and get the following error:

tar: Read error on /dev/rmt/0n: Not enough space
tar: At beginning of tape, quitting now
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

What the heck does that mean? I am not trying to write to the
tape, and there is plenty of disk space.

Thanks,
J.

I am using RedHat 6.2 with Kernel 2.2.14-5 and I have a driver that
requires Kernel 2.2.15. To that end I am trying (unsuccessfully) to
update my Kernel. I have gone through the procedure of downloading and
compiling the Kernel, but when I boot with the new Kernel, my devices
aren't installed. I can't access my floppy drive or my ethernet card.
Any suggestions?

Find Netscape.ad on your system. You can edit whichever X-resources
are relevant and put them into your ~/.Xdefaults. For example:

Netscape*menuBar*fontList: -*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-100-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*

Hello,

Please set the FUP2 only to one group (or set no FollowUp-To). It is not
helpful, if you set a FUP to half a dozen newsgroups...
I set the FUP to the group comp.os.linux.networking because the whole
question is not linux-dependent and therefor the discussion should not
take place in a linux-group.

XDMCP is AFAIK only the protocol, with which important information about
the following X-Session (Display-numbers, Magic-Cookies, ...), the login-
window and the X-Session does _not_ use XDMCP as protocol, this is done
via the X-protocol.

Um. Disk space and tape status are orthogonal.

What's the output of "mt -f /dev/rmt/0n"? You may need to rewind or
otherwise update the tape status.

Could anyone give me an example how to do this ....

I've found the cause of the problem: a /root/.rpmmacros file

Is there a (thread safe) memory allocator for Unix that operates on a
specified area of memory?

We need one for allocating/deallocating arbitrary chunks from shared
memory segments at well known addresses.

Typically for these kinds of things, you create and area providing a
starting address and size, and it returns a handle to that area. Then,
that handle is an additional parameter to its analogues to malloc, free,
etc.

The vxWorks memPartLib library does exactly this, but I've not been able
to find anything like it on Unix using the man pages and apropos.

For more info:

I know this will be an easy-answer, but I just can't find anything on
it.

Just installed Debian Slink on my laptop. Getting everything configured
the way I want, things are going pretty good so far. Only thing is,
(very, very annoying) every time I either 1) hit backspace too many
times, or 2) hit tab to finish a command/filename when there's more than
one filename to choose from, the stupid pc speeker goes "BEEP!" It's
pretty annoying. =p~ So, is this a key binding in Linux, or is it a
laptop thing? There is a function for a "keyboard beep" in the BIOS,
but it's turned off.... any help is greately appriciated. =)

I second that. I had the exact same problem wiht XFS loading and realised

Lets say you are running KDE access and you've installed all that window
managers.
Start a session as root. You'll find the
"configuration-->apps-->access manager" (beware my menues, I'm translating from
spanish on the fly). There you can add other window managers to start with
(session types) from the kdm login window.

Try this Perl script:

---
#!/usr/bin/perl

use File::Find;
foreach $dir ( @INC )  {
    find sub {print "$File::Find::name\n" if /\.pm$/ }, $dir;
}
---

HTH!
