Yes, that is the hallmark of a Unix system ;-)

Does the following help you: 'stty erase ^H'

Using mgetty, the modem should NOT answer. mgetty works by seeing the
RING output of the modem and then answering itself. If the modem
autoanswers, mgetty will not work.

First you need to make an iso file using mkisofs. Then do something like

cdrecord -speed=4 -dev=3,0 /usr/local/cd/filename.iso
where /usr/local/cd/filename.iso
is to be replaced with the name of the file you made with mkisofs.

Greetings group,

After entering my user name and password at the login prompt I'm
given an error message that reads the following

                                                        [: too many
arguments
                                                       [user@localhost
user]$

This also happens when I drop into an xterm from my window manager.
Does anybody know how to get rid of this? Although there is no effect to
the operation of the system it is rather annoying.

Thanks in advance,

Subject: Module(?) question
Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 18:05:06 -0700

I just had need to upgrade to the 2.4 kernel in order to get my Ultra
ATA66 working. That works fine, but there is some minor wierdness I
can't explain. For example, when I try to use my PPP connection, I get
a complaint that PPP is not installed into the kernel, or no modules are
available. Neither is true. I've compiled the kernel both ways (PPP
included, and then again as a module) but I still get this problem. I'm
assuming that this has something to do with the modules not being loaded
correctly.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

It problem means one of the shell startup files has a command which
either has a syntax error, or is not understood by the shell under which
it is running. It isn't too easy to track down, but you could try
putting "set -x" or "echo ..." commands into the scripts to see where
it turns up. This would include /etc/profile, ~/.profile, and others.
You are looking for a "test" command (which is '['), most likely in
a "if" statement. It might also be caused by use of an unquoted variable
which happens to be empty, like: "if [ $var ... " if var is undefined.

Get 'krabber' GUI front end, works well with cdrecord,
cdparanoia,lame,gogo,mp3enc,bladeenc,
do data cd, audio cd, cd ripping, recording cd-r, cd-rw,
etc. search for it in google.com, comes with SuSE 6.x

X-CDRoast needs scsi-ide emulation.

It's a freebie for Linux from Germany.

You didn't tell your smptd for localhost and PostgreSQL which
port/socket to use for connection.

Install webmin (www.webmin.com ), it'll help you to manage a lot of
servers.

You might want to install 'pgaccess' as well, for day to day data
maintainance.

Odd, then, that it formatted a 2gig partition as FAT16 instead of FAT32
when I used it. Of course, since I only use Win98 for the games, I've
not dug terribly far into it. I have Linux, it formatted FAT32, Windows
uses it fine, I'm happy.

PINE PINE PINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get GNUpg and pgp4pine too if you want easy
signing/encrypting/unencrypting email on the fly.

BUT Pine you must compile from source. Its lisence doesn't allow
binaries distribution.

But it's easy to compile. Read the README and FAQ.

RedHat builds disk druid into their installer. The only way you can get
back to it is to reboot with their install CD or diskette.

Similar situation to Caldera's inclusion of Partition Magic into their
installer. You must boot their installer to use it.

I know I don't want AA lit, and it's not. I know I don't want it to be
in fax mode. What I'm trying to find out is where I configure mgetty to
send it the right codes. I can't find any configuration file to change.
I've looked at all of the files in /etc/mgetty+sendfax and all the docs
I could find, including the greenie web page. It seems to me there's a
chat script somewhere or some defaults are compiled in. It appears to me
that mgetty is querying the modem as to its make and capabilities,
because the laptop modem with the same /etc/mgetty+snedfax configs,
etc., shows this in the log:
