sed didn't do the changes in a case insensitive way. You can also try

for x in *; do mv "$x" $(echo $x | awk '{print $1}'); done

This works if your files don't have a white space (space, tab) before
the .jpg extension. What awk does here is printing out $x upto the first
space.

Well,
i had to find a windows client so i can tell you more about the prblem...
the first message was written on a palm handheld, kindda difiicult to write
alot on it ;-)
Glad to hear you didn't do a thing.

I just tried it again, pppd can't get the remote ip adress. In the log files
i can see the remote ip adress, together with the 2 dns adresses the server
returns. I tried everything, switching on/off ccp etc. but nothing solves
it.
According to my manual (Suse6.4) i do not have to configure a ppp0 device,
pppd will handle that..
I tried all the differnt options for forcing the remote ip to be what the
server tells it to be but no results.
The machine is installed as a server for 5 windows clients and has a local
network defined.

Subject: md5sum differences?
Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 17:18:29 GMT

In the past I have downloaded and installed .iso images of Mandrake 7.1
without checking the md5sum totals. Now when I download (from different
sources) Mandrake 7.1 installation .iso images and run md5sum (without
options) I find that I get a completely different string of characters
then the md5sum that is indicated on the website. If this happened every

time I would be convinced there is something I am doing wrong, but when
I downloaded the Mandrake 7.1 extras .iso I got a matching md5sum.
What's up with that?! What's more - I am burning, installing, and using
these .iso images without difficulties. How important is it that the
md5sum strings match? Is there any reason that they are not in
alignment?

Cheers,

Daniel

Tried it:

7.6 Could not determine local IP address
This happens with many configurations of the Telebit Netblazer. The problem
is not the terminal server, but the site which has not configured the
terminal server with a set of IP addresses.

The Netblazer does not have your IP address. You do not have your IP
address. The link will not work unless both IP addresses are known.

The Netblazer does not have your IP address and you do not have your IP
address.
The Netblazer does know its IP address and you do not have its IP address.

The link will not work unless both IP addresses are known.

You must tell the Netblazer the IP addresses to be used. Use the local IP
address and the remote IP address as a parameter to the pppd process.

Use the pppd option format of:

local_ip:remote_ip

(That is the local IP address, a colon, and the remote IP address.)

7.7 Could not determine remote IP address
See the previous answer.

And guess, no results :-((

I believe that there is a disadvantage above 126MB on a single swap
partition.... I'm trying to remember, but I
can't quite pull it out of this rats-nest of a brain of mine...

IIRC you're better off with two 64MB swap partitions than with a single
128MB partition speed-wise.

It seems that every time I run linux (Redhat 6.2) for more than a few
hours, my system slows down a lot. I look at the load on the system and
it's sorta high, but 'top' shows no resource hogs. When I log out and
log back in (not reboot) the system is faster again. In linux I run
emacs, netscape, apache, and perl mainly.

If anyone can tell me either why this is happening, or how I can find
out more information, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I use 'expect' and call the expect script with the 'xterm -e ...'
command. At the
end of the expect script is an 'interact' command which leaves me at an
interactive prompt.

Usually the problem is in /etc/hosts or in /etc/resolv.conf

Then it must be a very strange playback problem as anything I record under
Windows will playback under Linux but anything I record under Linux will
not playback under either Linux or Windows.

What sort of playback problem would cause that?

I'm really not an expert, but one of the main reasons to do md5sum checking
is for 1) error-checking and 2) security. I guess it's possible that
someone could have altered the original ISO image and put the altered image
up on the site where you donwloaded it from. The best way (IMHO) to do this
is to 1) download the ISOs only from the official website, and 2) check the
sums anyway.

I'd e-mail whoever necessary on the sites where you've downloaded the images
from and ask them why this could happen as well, I might just be missing
something (maybe when they dl'ed the image onto their system it altered
date/time/permissions, and that has an effect on md5sums? not sure)

Good luck.

Depends on if it's IDE or SCSI (for drivers anyway) if it's IDE, you'll
need to compile IDE to SCSI emulation. Read up on that @
www.linuxdoc.org.

Personally, I like the commandline versions of all the utils (cdrecord,
etc.) and I use a nice perl ncurses interface like 'cdr' (found on
freshmeat.net). A lot of people who like GUIs choose XCDRoast, also
CDToaster (I think that's the name). There are lots of programs though,
most of them just smooth interfaces to the commandline programs, do a
search on freshmeat.net...

Subject: Where does RP3 store modem info?
Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 10:47:41 -0700

I tried to configure an internet connection in RP3 before my
modem was properly detected. rp3-config decided that the
modem device is /dev/ttyS0.
After that I got the modem to work and it's now on device
/dev/ttyS1. But I cannot change this information in rp3-config.
When I try to edit the modem entry that it already has,the tab
'Modem device' is grayed-out and cannot be changed.
If I try to delete the wrong modem entry or add a new one in
rp3-config, the application crashes.
Anyone knows where rp3-config stores this information? I
thought I might change it directly in some configuration file.

In the meantime I use KPPP to connect, but I'm frustrated by
rp3 :-)

BTW, I also tried to uninstall rp3 and then install it back, but it
comes up with the same wrong information

Subject: Where to find Tea brewing alarm.

When I installed Mandrake 7.0 there was a little alarm program which
would brew a cup of tea. When I decided to upgrade I decided that I
made a mess of the installation so I installed Mandrake 7.1 from
scratch. The app did not get installed.
Can anyone tell me which rpm it was in?
TIA

That's actually much nicer than my suggestion, or at least I think so.
