Hi PostgreSQL veterans,

I'm encountering a problem when inserting a record larger than 8kb into
my PostgreSQL v7.0.2. The record is actually a text file. I believe I
read this somewhere that someone encountered the same problem and had to
re-compile PostgreSQL but it was still only able to accept a max of
32kb.

Is there any other workarounds? Really appreciate any advice as this is
for my thesis. BTW i'm using jdbc for connecting and Linux RH6.2 with
Tomcat JSP engine.

Thank you.

Regards,
Damon

It will do just fine. I've had one running for more than two years
without any whisper of trouble. It's been up 115 days
straight right now.

I just installed RedHat 6.1. I can't seem to get it to boot dos. I
configured /etc/lilo.conf so that it would boot dos, but it gives me an
error telling me the partition does not have a system on it to boot. It
does have an OS on it. It will boot off of a floppy. I just can't get it
to boot from the hard drive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

you could turn on all power savers in the bios and kernel.

What I have done (to be able to sleep in my room with the pc still
on...) is confiscate the room next to me, drill a hole inbetween, and
loop trough the cables for monitor, mouse, kb and speakers. But if you
don't use it for other things than gateway (its just a router/server,
you don't work on it) I would Put it in the basement, or some closet.
(Warning, in a closet it can get overheated quick. The room next to me
is about 20 m3, and doesn't need to be heated in winter, *does* need to
be cooled in summer. 230 W is alot of heat!)

I think this has been an issue with postgresql for a while, and I do
not believe that there is currently an acceptable workaround. However,
from the mailing list, I've read that in the CVS there is code to fix this
problem in future releases.

Just a stab in the dark, but you many want to check that it's

Vcards suck.

A couple of good books are "Learning RedHat Linux" and "Running Linux"

I'm at work and not at my PC. However, I beleive it looks something like
this:

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
default=linux
prompt
timeout=50
other=/dev/hda6
        label=dos

I often wonder if there is a problem with where the dos partiction lies on
the 20 Gig disk and or if I need to add

table=/dev/hda

to /etc/lilo.conf

PS - if the machine will only be a router, you can possibly remove the
hard disks altogether, as there is a linux router kernel which fits on a
floppy. This could help the noise as well. Look on the web for the linux
router project home, I'm sorry I don't remember the URL

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: TCSH core dump
Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2000 21:21:14 GMT

Let me preface with the comment that I've looked in the Redhat FAQ, but
the problem I have doesn't seem to be covered; if there is another FAQ
somewhere that might cover it, please point it out to me.

I'm suddenly getting core dumps whenever TCSH starts up and therefore
no
users can log in. Root logins are fine, as SH is OK. BASH is OK, so
that is now the default shell.

I've tried replacing the TCSH binary, but that does not solve the
problem, so I assume TCSH is calling some other program that is
corrupted. Unfortunately, I'm clueless on how to track down the file
that is actually causing the problem. Is there a clue in the core dump
itself? Is there a utility that allows me to "browse" the core dump
file? Is there a list that identifies all programs called by TCSH?
The
man page lists a lot of files in the "SEE ALSO" section, but none of
the
obvious programs seem to have a problem.

FYI, I'm running Red Hat version 5.2, kernel 2.0.36 (I know, pretty far
down level, but I don't see that that would be a reason for the
problem).

Any clues or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

-Keith

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade my Sendmail installation on my RedHat 6.1 box. I
downloaded the RPM for it from the RedHat site
(sendmail-8.11.0-8.src.rpm). However, when I try to install it, I got
the error 'only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this
version of RPM'.

So I tried to install a newer version of RPM (I have 3.0-6.0). I
downloaded the rpm-4_0-4_src.rpm. However, I get the same error message
when I try to install that as well. I tried to install it in conjunction
with updated versions of popt and rpm-build as suggested elsewhere in
this newsgroup, but none of them would install either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try using a terminal program like Hyperterminal (or Telix, ..) to talk
to the modem. Use the appropriate AT commands (check your manual for
details) to see what all the settings are, and how to change them to

Hi, passive ftp always uses these 'unprivileged' client ports (>1024) to
create bidirectional communication. The ip_masq_ftp module is used to
pass ftp traffic across the masquarading firewall.

You'll find an awful lot of tcp clients will set the client side port to

Reading is O.K., but I thrashed a partition trying to write.
The partition was greater than 8 G, (and was nearly empty, as I was
expecting trouble). Perhaps writing is O.K. on smaller partitions.

As stated in another post, the balanced form is impled by the
unbalanced equation. The question still remains, is

       X --> P --> E

an equation... i.e. is it sufficient to say that the installation media
defines the construction of the program store P. And that P defines
the construction of the execution environment E?

Given that the execution enviornment is constructed, I would imagine
that you would agree that it is constructed from P.

P is tricker. The user supplies input. But that input could also be
supplied by a response file. Furthermore, X often includes code that
must be executed within E. Does this invalidate my statement?

Are you aware of Helix Gnome? I'm using version 1.21 on top of Mandrake 7.1 and
IMO it's better than the Gnome of old, as well as being better than KDE.

If it's a router only, And you *do* remove the harddisks, then don't use a
p200. A 386 doesn't need a fan for the processor(if you place an cooling iron
on it), only one to get the heat out of the case. So if you live in an
apartement where there's an internal vantilation system, you can place it
near there, and you won't need the fan either. But if you have removed the
fan and hard disks, the only mechanical (12 v) is the floppy drive. Could we
eliminate this one too? I'm no expert, but I heard about putting a bootrom on
your network card and booting off the network. If you succeeded in that, you
don't need a 220 Watt power supply, just for electronic components. I think
with an 386 30 watts should be way enough. So try to get an 30W 5v power
supply, and you have a noise-less powersaving super-router.

(BTW) I lately read about the i.Pic, a webserver on a microchip. A icture
showed just a 8-legged microchip. That ane would only need .030 Watt max,
Ithink
