I've a problem with linux 7 it seems that my virtual desktop is much
larger than my actual screen size, so i can't see the whole desktop at
once. Can anyone tell me what to do. (my screen resolution is 1024 *
768)
furthermore: after installing red hat 7 i can't use the functions on my
monitor anymore they are simply not accessible, this only happens in
GUI
mode and not in TEXT mode.
(monitor type is BELINEA 10 30 15) this wouldn't be a problem, but the
desktop isn't centered but on the left or right side (depending on the
resolution) of my screen

I just use (as root): 'ifdown eth0' then 'ifup eth0'. They work for me every
time. HTH.

More likely, if they were bombarded with tens of thousands of terminations in the
span of a couple days, with each departing subscriber citing "failure to support
*nix" as the only reason for bailing.

Hi,
Just upgraded from RedHat 6.2 to RedHat 7.0. Was running 6.2 ok with no
problems. After I upgraded, my adaptec 2930 scsi controller is not seen at
boot. If I log in as root and do
insmod aic7xxx
it finds it and it works fine. I checked and in the /etc/modules.conf the
line is there. I also have a line for my etherned adapter and sound card
that seems to work fine. I tried moving it down in the file but that didn't
work either. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your reply.
As far as what info I read, it was man route man arp man ifconfig etc.
I can set the ips and such on the nics, but what is 100% new to me is
routing.
What all has to be setup on the router for it to work, what commands I
put in so that all 3 networks can passs through the router etc.
I started on the adv-routing howto, then i tried going back to the site
where I had found it and it said the page was gone off the server. I
am just not having much luck is all.
I am sure that this setup couldnt be too hard to perform, its just I am
sooo ignorant to these proceedures, that there must be a good online
resource I could read and get caught up on just how routing works and
how to implement it?
Again thanks SO much for your reply and I will read the mans again.
When I do figure out, just what route add commands have to be
implemented. Will I just place them in a script and call from
rc.local? Or is there a better way to do this when routing?
Thanks

Hi Everyone;
I am a pascal programmer and used to do programming in Unix environment.
Now I am in a new place where it has only Linux machine. I would like to
call a fortran routine from a main pascal program. I used to do this in
Sun machine using the following command
pc -o output pascal.p fortran.o
where fortran.o is made using f77 -c fortran.f
In my current machine I have g77 (fortran equivalent) and gpc
I am trying to same way but it does not work. Can anybody give me some
pointer (may be appropriate newsgroups)
Thank you

I have two SCSI hard drives. I also have a DDS-2 tape drive on a separate

Here is my /etc/lilo.conf (I think it gives me only 5 seconds to decide.
Change timeout to 100 to get 10 seconds, I guess:
valinux:jdbeyer[~]$ cat /etc/lilo.conf

You will probably want a simpler file than this. I have new and old
versions of both my normal SMP kernel and the UP kernel in case I have
problems with SMP. I also have a separate boot partition on the second
drive. I have never tried to boot from there, but I suppose it would work.

It would if you made an entry for it in your /etc/fstab file. Something
like this (from my other machine):
touchl:jdbeyer[~]$ cat /etc/fstab
/dev/hdb13 / ext2 exec,dev,suid,rw,usrquota 1 1
/dev/hdb1 /boot ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb5 /data ext2 exec,dev,suid,rw 1 2
/dev/hdb7 /home ext2 exec,dev,suid,rw,usrquota 1 2
/dev/hdb6 /opt ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb12 /tmp ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb9 /usr/src ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb8 /var ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hda1 /w95 vfat defaults,umask=002,uid=500,gid=500
0 0
/dev/hdb10 Swap000 swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb11 Swap001 swap defaults 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy ext2 user,exec,nodev,nosuid,rw,noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 user,exec,nodev,suid,ro,noauto 0 0
valinux:/usr/local/Downloaded /mnt/valinux/Downloaded nfs
ro,soft,bg,nosuid 0 0
valinux:/usr/local/girls /mnt/valinux/girls nfs
ro,soft,bg,nosuid 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0
0
touchl:jdbeyer[~]$
(That system has too many partitions, but I cannot be bothered to fix it.)
The w95 entry looks at the Windows partition on the hda drive.

Your program should not need to know how many CPUs there are. If
the OS is working correctly, the only difference you should see if
there are more processors would be more throughput. And you program
should not need to know what that is. It should do the best it can.
It seems to me that it will just make your program more complex to
get this information (the easy part) and to use it (the hard part
to get correct).

Check out

too see how to figure out which one you have. If it's the Soundblaster
then you'll need to recompile your kernel to support it. If it's the soft
audio card you'll have to do more research. (I don't really know anything
about it, sorry)
Also, as has been pointed out, normally the volumes are set very very
low in Linux, use aumix or mp3blaster or some such to crank it up and see
if it might actually be working.
Good luck!
