Dynamic DNS address lookup is supported on the latest version of kppp.

Subject: Help!! (proftpd)
Date: Mon, 8 Jan 2001 09:14:39 -0000

Hi,

I posted a similar message a few days back but didn't get a solution.
Slightly different problem this time.

I have Proftpd 1.2 running on RedHat 6.2 and am just using the default setup
from the proftpd.conf

When I try and ftp to the server I get the following log:

Connecting to server

compiled in modules
mod_core.c
mod_auth.c
mod_xfer.c
mod_site.c
mod_ls.c
mod_unixpw.c
mod_log.c
mod_pam.c
mod_ratio.c
mod_linuxprivs.c
mod_readme.c
mod_quota.c

The connection then fails, and attempts to connect again but with the same
result.

Can anyone tell me why this is failing or tell me where to find out.

Much thanks

Billy

I remember being at GM Powetrain the Tech Center, and the official
GM management position was: "File servers for home directories and
applications are a waste of money because you have this really expensive
machine just sitting there doing nothing."

Of course, the productivity losses from trying to figure out how and
where to install the next upgrade of UniGraphics, or Nastran didn't
count as "money" spent..... or something

The new FA311 and FA312 use the NatSemi dp83815 and require either driver

Hi,
I'm using RH 7.0 and I've downloaded kernel 2.4. The kernel compiled OK,
and I installed it just like the README tells. But there seem a few
errors when booting with the new kernel. It says NFS lockd error. I
can't remember exactly. There are also problems with my sound card
(es1371). I compiled the sound card support into the kernel, not as a
module. But the sndconfig utiliy reports that it must be a module! And
the ppp is not correct either. It just says modprobe can't find ppp0.
Is there anything I can do? Thanks!

The G400 (and G200) works without problems; for the G450 (and G250) you'll
need the Matrox drivers, which are available at http://www.matrox.com. With
those, it *works* but it did not work very well for me (could not go beyond
1280x1024, etc).

Appearantly this is the case.
I didn't try the command, just made a guess (without thinking it over
much)
If it doesn't work, the conclusion is simple:

it indeed must not be due to shell interpretation, but due to the chown
program.

It would ofcourse be strange if a . would be interpreted by the shell.
No normal 8.3 filenames would be usable without escaping :-)

Anyway, thanks for the correction.

At 2.4 the lockd is rolled into the kernel (or into one of the other
NFS processes) so rpc.lockd (nfs.lockd?) fails to start as it has
nothing to do.

There are several ppp* modules (pp_async, pp_deflate, and about 3
others). If you modprobe these ppp will work (look in the drivers/net
modules dir for ppp* files to get the list).

Dear Jorg Schilling and other SCSI wizards,

I have a SCSI HP 9200 cdburner installed on my Redhat 7.0 Box. If I
reboot the computer, CDRecord works fine and I can burn away all day.
However, when I come to work the next day CDRecord fails. Eg. the
command

  cdrecord -eject -v dev=1,6,0 blank=fast

fails with with the message

cdrecord: No disk / Wrong disk!

and the computer has to be rebooted to retrieve a functional burning
setup.

I've been struggling quite a lot getting this to work, and I'd be
really thankful if anybody have some suggestions on how to get things
running in a proper fashion.

The full output from

  cdrecord -eject -v -V dev=1,6,0 blank=fast

is included below in this posting,

[Snip...]

I'm not familiar with the specifics of this printer or RH7.0, but I don't
think it depends on either, if in Postscript mode. The duplex (two-sided)
printing is signaled in a Postscript file in the preamble section, by the
commands

     %%BeginFeature:*Duplex
     <</Duplex true>>setpagedevice % 0 BeginPage
     %%EndFeature

I use sed (or some such; even manual editing) to insert these lines prior
to submitting the job to the Postscript print queue. Obviously this means
the printer itself must be capable of duplex, and embedded mode switch.

I realize this doesn't directly answer your question of how to do this on
this particular printer with RH7.0, but you might try hand editing a very
simple Postscript file in this fashion as a 1st order workaround test.

Well, not my own distributor, yet.
I am working on Linux From Scratch though.
I am using a pre packaged distribution for
ip forwarding/MASQ and it works so well it
may become a permanent fixture here.
I don't want to change too much on it until
I am sure the LFS will do the job.

I do:
# cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.4.0
# cp ..../bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.0
Modify /etc/lilo.conf for new image and "/sbin/lilo -v"
The link to System.map-2.4.0 will be created on-the-fly at booting
moment.
It works well for me !

The netzero *signup* requires MS-Windows. Once you go through the
signup process and get your account name and password figured out, you
can use the normal PPP connect code on a Linux box to *connect* to
netzero from Linux.

The best you can do is:

        Install Linux
        Buy and install vmware
        Install Win95/Win98 under vmware.

Win9x is said to run slightly faster and is slightly more stable when
run in a virtual machine under vmware.

At this point there are really rather few MS-Windows applications which
don't have some kind of Linux equivalent available. Star Office does
everything MS-Office does, for example.

Subject: HighPoint Technologies HPT370 RAID Setup in Linux

Hi,

Does anybody have experience in setting up RAID in Linux using HPT370
chipset produced by HighPoint Technologies?
I can only find a Linux patch from its website
http://www.highpoint-tech.com/ , but it supports only non-RAID harddisk.
Is there any solution to get RAID worked?

Regards,
Jason

I heard that there were troubles with the TNT drivers for
XFree 3.* primarily because nvidia was not releasing information.
They did release a library which was used to build one set of drivers,
but that was a long time ago.
Now that XFree has been upgraded ( to XFree 4.0 as I understand )
is there still driver support for TNT in there?
I would like to upgrade, but haven't yet because I fear I may not have
the drivers.
TIA.
