I can't recall the english word for someone who wants to keep everything
for himself.

I believe that what you want is not allowed by Netscape, and if you mess
too much with it, you can kill your poor ole' netscape.

Do you know that there are security problems with netscape upto 4.74?
Something to do with "brown hole" I believe. Get the 4.76.

Hello,

I want to install fortune-mod. I succeeded in loading fortune when I login
at the console (i. e. including .login from .bash_profile) but I do not
know how to automatically load fortune-mod in an xterm or gnome-terminal
each time I execute them.

Thanks for hints,

Subject: ltmodem driver problem
Date: Mon, 08 Jan 2001 12:35:30 GMT

hi

i've had a little problem with the ltmodem.o driver (version 5.78c).
i'm currently using a toshiba 8100 w/linux-2.2.14/pppd-2.3.11

i have both the ltmodem 568 (binary dist) and 578 (compiled from src)
installed - i installed the later version to avoid the 'unresolved
symbols' messages

both are successful and work; via minicom i can dial out using both
drivers. however, using the same dialout scripts using the 578 driver,
i have problems getting access to my isp, but using the 568 driver i
have no problems. can anyone suggest the possible reasons why?

any advice will be appreciated - many thanks
 ray

 additional info:

     /dev/ttyS14 c 62 78 # for ltmodem 568
     /dev/ttyLT0 c 62 64 # for ltmodem 578

/dev/modem is a link to the appr dev, depending on the modem

     /lib/modules/2.2.14/misc/ltmodem-568.o
     /lib/modules/2.2.14/misc/ltmodem-578.o

/lib/modules/2.2.14/misc/ltmodem.o is sym link to appr ltmodem,
depending on the modem drv i want to use

to change the driver i want, i just 1st rmmod ltmodem, change the
sym-links (ltmodem.o and /dev/modem), depmod, insmod ltmodem (-f when
using the 568 ltmodem)

the following is the output of the messages dumped via syslogd, showing
trying setting up the link with ltmodem578 (which fails) and then (after
switching the sym links) using ltmodem568

Then why not simply supply this as an answer to the original question?

I must say, if I wanted to attack you personally, I sure as hell
wouldn't
be dissuaded by your .sig.

Yes and 1000 copies of a really big jpeg are less bandwidth than, say,
my archive of cool wave sound files; but that doesn't justify my sending
you a jpeg with this post; so I don't do that, although you are
obviously
equipped with a T1. :)

Yes, so what?
At the moment I have a 33k analog modem connection and I can tell you,
your article didn't surge in at what I would call blazzzzzing speed.

Don't tell me that, I'm already sodding off :)

What about doubling the backslash?
This would pass one backslash to chown.
I didn't try this either, just my $2e-2

I recently tried with X 4.0.2 which complains about module mga_hal (not

both ports)

Unfortunately konqueror takes me to the top of the document.
Is there any way to change this behaviour?

May I inquire; how long did it take you to load your OS off of floppies?

I suppose that depends on what you mean by "solution". I have gone the
route of synching with Outlook using VMWare, and then exporting from
Outlook into StarOffice, but that's really cumbersome. It'd be much more
useful if StarOffice, or Gnome's address book, or whatever, could synch
directly with WinCE (as, e.g., StarOffice and jPilot can with Palm).
None of this is a big problem for me, though, as I
use my WinCE machine (velo 500) mainly for editing text files. I simply
save these (from PocketWord) in pdf or plain text format, and then transfer these files
to the linux machine (directly, through a ppp link - i.e. without having to "boot"
VMWare/Win9x/ActiveSynch), where I can continue to work on them with StarOffice.

When I first was setting up Linux on my first machine, I had trouble
getting in to my ISP. I had my machine log everything I did into
/var/log/messages, and everything seemed fine. I watched the chat script
run, and everything was as I expected, except that a little after they
told me my IP address and theirs, they hung up on me. Since I have a
full service ISP, I called tech support and they snooped the connectioin
as I tried to connect. They noticed instantly that I did everything
correctly, but did not tell them to go into ppp mode. It took about 15
seconds for me to fix that.

If none of this stuff makes any sense to you, just call your ISP's tech
support. They should be able to straighten you out in a few seconds.

Bullshit, my TNT works great using 3.3.6

For localhost, it shouldn't reach any firewall (unless your machine *is*
a firewall itself).

1) Check that localhost is 127.0.0.1 in the DNS (or in /etc/hosts if
   you don't use a DNS).

2) Check that the agent accepts requests originated from 127.0.0.1
(if the agent sends authentication traps, check if one is sent
   at each request you do).
