I agree. You want to have 127.0.0.1 as the nameserver entry in
resolv.conf, and set up a forwarders entry in named.conf when you
connect using some script magic and a killall -1 named ... actually,
I suspect you either don't need to reference your ISP's nameservers
at all, ever (you might as well hit on some open nameserver elsewhere)
or you can _always_ forward to them. After all if you can't get through
to them, you're not on the net, so who cares ...

I just installed Enlightenment last night in SuSE7.0. It seems to work fine
with Gnome. I used YaST and set the instillation medium to FTP.
(Enlightenment is on ftp.suse.com even though its not on the CD.)

What is the legal status of the Tux (Linux penguin) artwork? Is it
public domain, GPL or some other license? The reason that I'm asking is
that I'd like to sell tee shirts incorporating Tux, and want to ensure
that it's legal before spending any money on prototypes.

Does anyone know if the VPN masquerade kernel patch has made it's way
into the 2.4 kernel? This is the patch that allows a user to connect
to a VPN through a Linux firewall. Previously, the 2.2 kernel had to
be patched to allow this functionality. I'm wondering if this has
been fixed for the new kernel series.

TIA,

Lew, Pbloomgren, and Doc Evil -- thanks for the responses.

Unfortunately, I fear the problem runs deeper than attributions in the
fstab file. My fstab file, below, used to work. Now, without
modification to the fstab file, the devices in the last 5 lines won't
mount at all as a nonroot user: (c.f. error described earlier, in the

I know Debian says it releases when it releases which is far enough.
Sounds very much like the kernel anyway. But what I would like to know
is how development is going. I can't seem to find that information
anywhere. RedHat hasn't reached .2 yet so on past performances is not
completely stable but I would love to have a fully developed distro with
the latest and greatest kernel, XFree86, gcc etc.

Can anyone tell me how things are going with 'woody' or better still and
personal idea on the ETA of 'woody'.

as other people have pointed out: the ANSI standard prescribes main to be
int, otherwise there shouldn't be a problem. a few years ago you saw it
quite frequently, esp. when people started to move there C programs from
DOS to unices

in an environment where every program, esp shells, expect a return code
and check for it, you should be glad that the compiler doesn't let you
return some garbage as exit code

not even that: it is utility software. according to the specs, a hard
drive can have up to (exactly?) 4 primary partitions. secondary partitions

I think Konqueror is a work in progress --
in my version I can't find a way to do this
because Konqueror seems to think of itself
both as a file manager and a browser. It wants
its home file to be ~ and nothing but.

However, in the help pages it says under
Edit in the menubar there should be a choice
"Create New." There you can create a new URL
link, and supposedly you can make a button for
your icon bar that points to any
link somewhere else in the
app.

My Konqueror doesn't have "Create New" under
Edit yet, so I think they haven't finished
that menu. Once it's done you could make a
button for your home URL that would be as
good as a "home" button in any other browser.

I have a new Konqueror on a CDROM here and
as soon as I get time I'm gonna load it
and see if they finished the Edit menu yet.

I'm not sure I yet see the point of making
a file manager and browser into one app, but
maybe I will later.

Now there is a rumor that HP has a new palmtop running Redhat Linux.

My personal WAG is that Debian 2.3 will be out in three to six months.

BTW you might want to consider Debian's 'testing' distribution (which is
what 'woody' presently points to). Packages are moved from 'unstable' to
'testing' when they have been free of serious bugs for two weeks and all
their dependencies can be satisfied. Just install 2.2, put

deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free

in your /etc/apt/sources.list, and do

      apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade

1) Fire up mc.
2) Highlight/enter on the package.
3) Highlight/enter CONTENTS.cpio
4) Navigate to whatever file you're interested in
5) F5
6) type in the path where you want it
7) Click OK

I know this won't help, but, I have the same problem
w/RP-8/Linux/Netscape(6), have yet to fix things, or find a USENET hit on
anyone who has. Anyone out there got RP-7 or 8 working w/Netscape and Linux?

Thanks,
