After further investigation, I see that any attempt to add _any_ package
gives me this error message.
What am I doing wrong?

I haven't seen anyone suggest yet the 'conv=' option on the mount command.
This will allow automatic conversion of text files being read/written to
a FAT drive from Linux. However, it must be used with caution (as indicated
in the documentation).

John,
I agree, when I got the SIIG PCI cards installed, they did come up with
what are not the "normal" default I/O addresses, but it does indeed work
normally. Glad it worked for you. :-)

This is a RedHat-specific problem, something to do with the font path
being screwed up. Since I don't use RedHat, I forget exactly what the
fix is here, but try going to http://deja.com/home_ps.shtml and
searching this NG for "font path" and "-1". It's reasonably common and
not too hard to fix from what I understand. HTH,

Did you update ppp? I seem to remember reading that the ppp package
must be updated for the 2.4.x. kernel.
