the QTDIR variable should be specified before you configure / compile..
as should the KDEDIR
so..in /usr/lib make a symlink to the current qt
ln -s qt-2.2.3 qt
put /usr/lib/qt/lib in your ld.so.conf
put the following script in /etc/profile.d/
#!/bin/sh
export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt
export PATH=$PATH:$QTDIR/bin
export KDEDIR=/usr
call it e.g. qt.sh
chmod 755 qt.sh
source /etc/profile.d/qt.sh
ldconfig
now you are ready to compile..

Are you sure they duplicate the filedescriptors... not that they are shared
by
all threads as i would expect ?

NO IT DONT..
These are Threads !! they ALL share the SAME 34 MB memory..
Anyway 128MB is not much, id reccomend getting 256 MB if you plan
to do some serious work with forte..

Then they are complaining that they don't have a single braincell.
Netscape is a userspace application. It doesn't care who runs it.
That's why you CAN run it as root ...

Sorry, I misthought, I meant "not every 12 seconds". The man page is
precise on what it means. It's the first of your alternatives.

I believe init tolerates q fine, though obviously it can depend on the
build!

No idea. The strongest possibility is that you did it, somehow. Most
of the crontab is a stock comment. It looks like the touch
/etc/cron.running line was replaced, possibly in an absent-minded
moment!

8a.) Run Tripwire to populate the needed reference files. Tripwire does
not do any good unless those reference files, protected by a Site
Passphrase and a Local Passphrase, are in place.

Using the xlock from xlockmore-gl all the OpenGL screensavers work
for me. This is Debian potato upgraded to 'testing' with the NVidia
0.96 driver and a Creative GF2MX card.
However, for some reason these screensavers leak alot of memory. If
I do something like 'xlock -modelist allgl -delay 15' then my machine
with thrash itself to death within 10 minutes (128MB RAM, 256MB swap).
Also, I can only run some OpenGL things as root, not sure why. I'd
suggest you startx from a root console then run your OpenGL program.
Cheers,
Andrew

Since I use Red Hat (6.2.3 at the moment), this is almost true. While
sendmail is up and running, it does not work the way I want because the
sendmail.cf is not suitable for me. Also, the version is only 8.9.3-20,
which is out of date.
So, I download the latest source from http://www.sendmail.org/ and build
it myself.
But a second big advantage is that there is Usenet group:
comp.mail.sendmail where a group of extremely knowledgeable people
rapidly answer questions. There are also a few people in this newsgroup
that can do the same, but the other is the appropriate one. (Of course,
there is probably a newsgroup for qmail and Exim as well, but I never
looked.)

The experts on comp.mail.sendmail really disfavor diddling
/etc/sendmail.cf (which is no longer there, but in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf
anyway in the newer versions of sendmail), but recommend editing the
simpler sendmail.mc file instead. The comparable line would be:
dnl Use your.isp.neme as "smart" relay host. (19.6.47)
define(`SMART_HOST', `your.isp.name')
and then re-run m4 to generate the new sendmail.cf file.

Subject: debian 2.2 unstable
Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 13:51:39 +0100
Hi there: last summer I installed Debian 2.2 about one week before it was
declared stable - and stable it was until last weekend.
Last week I did apt-get upgrade and on Monday I booted it for the first
time after a scheduled power outage that weekend.
Now the system lasts about a day and then from one second to the next
every single program segfaults.
I have no clue why - can't find anything in the logs - and would really
appreciate any suggestions on how to figure out what is wrong.
Three finger salute doesn't work (presumably shutdown segfaults, too) and
login as root or su doesn't work so I had to do a hard reboot each time.
Sshd gives disconnect with error 11/13 and upon login attempts I get
respawning too fast.
Is there any way to downgrade back? Should I try the unstable branch?
many thanks, Gerald
PS: system is a PIII 650 w/ buslogic bt958 and ibm uw disks, matrox g400,
smc ethernet and pci128 soundcard but as I said I had uptimes of several
months on this exact hardware.

Subject: VESA energy saver with a new 2.4.0 kernel?
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Otto J. Makela)
Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 13:04:34 GMT
I assume the whole logic behind the VESA energy saving system has
changed, or something, because the settings in XF86Config-4 which
worked well with a older kernel no longer (with a hand-compiled 2.4.0)
switch my monitor to energy saving from the gdm login screen, nor does
the Gnome screen saver ever switch over to energy saving mode though
it has been set to do so. This is a RH7.0 system with XFree86 4.0.1,
the old kernel was the 2.2.16-22 that came with the system.
I got a report of a similar problem from another user, and then again,
someone else told me that it works just fine for him.
How should I proceed to figure out what's wrong?
