G'day mate air yegowan?
Have you read the Linmodem-HOWTO??
There is a clue there! (or ten)
To save you poring over the doc with a fine tooth comb I will tell you.
The pnpdump > isapnp.conf file will contain an ACT Y line at the end of each
device story.
If you get the range check message you describe below, try leaving the ACT Y
line at the end of the modem story COMMENTED OUT.
Also.......
To figure out which IO to use, have a look at either the BIOS or the output
of dmesg | less to see what ports your existing /dev/ttySn's are using.
Usually these ports are 0x2f8 for ttyS0 and 0x3f8 for ttyS1. this means you
must use 0x2e8 or 0x3e8 for your modem. The ltmodem driver will produce a
port called /dev/ttyS14 or /dev/ttyLT0.
Speaking from personal experience with both pci and isa lucent modems, I
think your mad to rely on these things. They play up like a second-hand
lawnmower when used with linux. Having said that, I notice that you are
using 2.2.12. This is the kernel most likely to talk turkey with a Lucent
-chipset modem.
If the above info has got your modem recognised, your frustration is
possibly not yet over. The version of pppd you are using is also critical.
The wrong one will make your machine CRASH every time. Here I can't help you
any further. I am still trying to find one that doesn't.
As Richard says, get ltmodem-5.78e.tar.gz and read 1ST READ very carefully.
Good luck. Please keep in touch and let me know what you find out.
