The 4.07 distributed with RH 5.2 was awful, so if you have that upgrade.
It was very unstable. The N4.5 from tar <circa January> was also prone
to crashing, but had a lot of cool features. So it was with reservations
that I switched to 4.08, which crashes when I try to reply to html
messages.

There is a program called GREED, that may be the answer, check
freshmeat. Also NcFTP can resume downloads but can't thread, at least I
have not figured out how to get it to do that. And NcFTP uses ncurses so
no worry about X.
