As root:
# rm /dev/cdrom
# ln -s /dev/hdX /dev/cdrom
Replace the X with the actual device file that your CD-ROM is. Here's a
table to help (assuming an IDE system):
IDE system device - Linux filesystem device
===========================================
Primary Master = /dev/hda
Primary Slave = /dev/hdb
Secondary Master = /dev/hdc
Secondary Slave = /dev/hdd

Hm. Don't know exactly about this one... I've never experienced that
problem.
