If i wanted to do that i would do that, i could have said that in my reply i
normaly give 2 or more different ways of doing things, i said; 
zless filename.tar.gz which i _meant_ . Obviously you did not try that
otherwaise you woukld have seen what i meant.

An example would be;

zless /home/pa3gcu/cwkeyer-0.1.tgz returns in the top lefthand corner;

cwkeyer-0.1/

Now i know that i can unpack the archive in /usr/local/src and it will
create its own directory. I dont need to know what subdirectorys will be
crated as i will see that as soon as the archive is unpacked and i cd to 
its directory.

Dont say "Huh?" try the command given before asking what could be called a
silly question from someone who considers himself a _hacker_.
