you can easily test what the windowmanager does, like this:

(make a new user: adduser user ; passwd user ; login as that user)

echo "xterm" > ~/.xinitrc
startx

start some app, see how it looks, and try whether it can be moved with the
mouse or not. also notice that X needs to be shut down with ctrl-alt-bs

try:  X -h  (scroll back with left-shift/pageup) and:  man X

this is what want:    X | netscape -display :0
