Chris,
I haven't used Redhat 6.0, but shutdown, on any linux or unix system should
not require x windows libs to work...
Try a telinit 6 (or is it 0?). Basically you will want to change your
runlevel to the "halt" or reboot runlevel, this should (for "halt") runlevel
be 6 under Redhat. man telinit
Also make sure you are using the command line shutdown command, some also
ship with a graphical version, make sure you are executing the right one, do
a which shutdown. It should return a /sbin/shutdown, if not change your
path and execute /sbin/shutdown.
If you deleted some of your libc5 libs, you have a bigger problem, and I
would not recommened rebooting if that is the case (it won't come back up)
