Ouch, I don't mean to freak you out, but this looks like a serious problem.
Boot into single user mode (ie off a floppy disk or CD-ROM  that loads the
kernel, but doesn't mount the drives) and run `fsck` on all your drives
(just to be safe) then try and manually mount each one of your slices in the
correct order, ie first mount "/" then mount "/usr", "/tmp" etc, etc.

If it gives an error in fsck or when you try and try and mount them, make
sure you write down the entire message and give a shout back to the list.

Have you did anything like re-compile your kernel, disable modules, change
hard drives, changed IDE cables, hit your computer with a hammer?
