You installed the system, you must have seen the screen and the text saying
"mouse installation" or text to that effect.

You dont even say what type of mouse it is, so how in hecks name can we tell
you wat to do.

The things i can say which will now be confusing are as follows.

ps/2 mouse.

cd /dev
rm mouse
ln -s /dev/psaux mouse
gpm -t ps/2 /dev/mouse &

A serial mouse.

cd /dev
rm mouse
ln -s /dev/ttyS0 mouse
 (comm1 comm2 =/dev/ttyS1)
gpm -t ms &
 (MicroSoft compatable)
gpm -t msc &
 (MouseSystems mouse)

Other types need to be defined in the kernel, i think the standardly
installed kernel should have the drivers there for you.

And next time please be more spesific on what type of hardware you are
talking about.
