Lawson,

Thanks for responding, and I'm sorry I was not clearer. I can't quote
your message to the list because I usually handle mail with rmail, but
the linux-newbie server (vger.rutgers.edu) won't accept any mail sent
from rmail, but it will from Netscape. I'm running a stand-along Linux
RH 6.0 work station.

When I try to send a command to vger.rutgers.edu or a mail message to
the lists to which I'm subscribed on that server, I get the following
error message send by listserv on vger.rutgers.edu

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to all of its recipients.
The
following address(es) failed:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:
    <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
    host vger.rutgers.edu [128.6.190.2]:
    550 5.7.1 Policy analysis reported:
    Open relay - see http://www.orbs.org/verify.cgi?address=38.8.20.2

Well, this made no sense to me, but I checked with the url mentioned and
found that anti-spam features run by vger.rutgers.edu require that my
outgoing mail application must be configured to have the name of my
ISP's mail server. My ISP's mail server is "mail.tiac.net." I gather
from your note that rmail should have a provision to define what appears
in my From: header. But that does not seem to be the problem, but rather
than name of my ISP's mail server not being properly known to my
machine. Given this, wouldn't it be sendmail that is involved?
