Would someone please define "smarthost" (sounds like something from M$)
and open relay?

This is quite nice.. look for a new ISP.. mmmm Of course, just throw my
ISP contract in the dustbin... Also have to re-sub to about a dozen Email
lists.. Reconfigure my PPP.. of course, being in the middle of no where
Germany I don't have many (ie 1) choices of ISPs that I can afford... How
about Orbs paying for my new ISP? Nope? Well, then we all know what the "bs"
in Orbs stands for, now don't we.
