The video mode is defined via LILO so change it in /etc/lilo.conf and rerun
lilo.

If the default mode does not work thats (i belive 791) which is 1024x768x64k
then you must have an old monitor, or a very new one with a chip in it in
which you can define a standard mode like i have here, a AS6S from TVM,
i cant get the dam thing to boot into 1024x768x64 mode either, however just
define another mode, i would suggest 788 which is 800x600x64k and see what
happens, but DO NOT FORGET to rerun LILO after changing /etc/lilo.conf
Dont worry about higher resolutions X will handle them ok if XF86Config has
the proper entries.
