You may try this:


1) Boot your machine
2) Assuming you use LILO, when the linux shows up, add single.
Linux will then grant you with bash#.
3) To change the password put #passw. You will be prompted with:
New UNIX password:

4) Type ypur new password
5) Linux will prompt you with: Retype new UNIX password, as confirmation.
6) Enter and then you will get:

passw: all authentification tokens updated successfully.

Reboot and login as root with the new password.

I tried it once out. It works.
