As Ray and Frank have pointed out, all i can add is there will never be
100% support of such crappy modems in Linux.

As a Radio Ham, if i say use a "Baycom modem" you will realise that the CPU
needs to do all the work to translate incomming data via software, now
thats CPU intensive, compare the remarks about a "Baycom modem" to a
"Winmodem"  i am sure you will see that any piece of hardware which leans
on software and interrupt intensive hardware is "not" acceptable under a
mulititasking enviroment.

No disrespect to the maker of Baycom modems, however life is too short for
1200 baud.
