Are you sure your modem is set to hang up with the lowering of the DTR
signal?  This is the &D2 setting (as in AT&D2).  But maybe you are not
talking about on/off hook status.  My friend had a flaky modem that used
to lock up after awhile.  Since it was internal he had to reset the
machine.  This would be *the* reason not to use internal modems at remote
sites :)
