My modem on COM4 is internal, and the only modem currently in use. I also have
an older Newcom 14.4, which had the habit of dropping connections, especially in
its later life, and an older Spartan 2400. I don't know if the Newcom can be
made to work with a better init string, but I don't want to downgrade now that
I have internal Diamond SupraExpress 56i. Most of the time I connect OK, but
sometimes there are glitches with the Internet server, and sometimes after
disconnecting, the modem hangs, and the only way out that I can see so far is to
shut down and reboot. Some glitches with the Internet server develop after
successful login.
