I would think that it wouldn't be hard to scare up a couple of short-haul
modems for cheap, though. They're the sort of thing that gets put in as a
temporary solution and obsoleted when the fiber link (or whatever) goes in.
Try ebay, or some of the surplus outfits like compugeeks.
