Ok, buying a SCSI tape is a good idea, but I would prefer non-DAT
techology. DAT tapes have a limited life time. They stand 50 to
100 cycles, then you have to replace them. QIC cartridges seem to
have a nearly unlimited lifetime. The case of the cartridge is
much more robust. Have a look at Tandberg drives.

Some people have been reporting lot's of trouble with DAT drives.
I for myself have in the office two HP drives for backing up my
Novell and NT servers. They run seamless till today. But cleaning
is critical. We had a copier standing in the same room and
removed it because it was a source of dust.

Keep in mind that the QIC technology is much more simpler: tape
never leaves the cartridge, complete cartridge is made of less
then ten parts or so, ...
