Probably right. > > I'm very happy with my 1650 under linux. > > Good for you. At least they are supporting some models. As far as I know, the SANE backend from Epson Kowa supports all Epson scanners. At least all the newer ones are additionally supported by the SANE epson or plustek backends. So in principle, they are supported. But often it's those tiny problems e.g. in config files that take so long to discover and stop the users from scanning. > > But do > > check the supported listing before buying anything USB for a non-windows > > platform. > > I did. The scanner is not supported by the epson backend, because it doesn't use the usual Epson chipsets. It is supported by the plustek backend instead. > As I have said before I may still buy a 1260 if somebody can tell me what > the command set is; at least then I could hack the existing driver. The scanner uses a National Semiconductor LM9832 ("Merlin") chipset as far as I know. The plustek backend supports this chipset. The plustek homepage even has a special section about a problem with this scanner in 1.0.10. I don't know of any problems (but yours) in 1.0.12. But G. Jaeger is the expert here: http://www.gjaeger.de/scanner/plustek.html#epson I'm mentioning this here so nobody who reads the archive comes to the conclusion that the Epson 1260 isn't supported by SANE.
