Returning may very well have been the best option here. My comment was directed just to my reading of your post - which appeared to me to read 'avoid epson'. It appears to me that epson is one of the more linux-friendly manufacturers. Casting mud publicly is unwarranted if this is true. Unfortunately there will be some bad experiences.
