Thanks for that. Guess it is a catch 22 situation. Maybe you could put
something in the FAQ abotu what is on and off topic here.

Erm ,no. It does not work with the plustek backend either.

I think the Epson one was getting to it first. Commented Epson out of the
dll.conf file and plustek found it, but then reported the same error.

I have now given up with the Epson and returned it to the store and got a
Agfa Snapscan in its place. It worked first time out the box. All my
problems are now over, but in future I will not be buying another Epson
scanner whatever other people say.
