I've found that unloading ehci-hcd and usb-ohci before unpluggin the card
prevents the system from freezing. That's probably why it doesn't freeze either
at shutdown.
This can be made automatic, w/ hotplug scripts (if you unplug the last device
that was connected to your card, then unload the necessary modules, for
instance). It would require more testing, anyway.
