That logfile contains tons of connection attempts that fail for various different reasons. Most common is that the computer gives up on the drive while the drive is still warming up. You can try doing this: Make sure the usb-storage module isn't loaded on your system and prevent the hotplug system from loading it. Then plug in the drive and insert a disc. Give it some 15 - 30 seconds to warm up, and then do "modprobe usb-storage". Also, when you post log files in the future, see if you can whittle them down to just the relevant part. That last one contained over 6 hours worth of log messages! I couldn't tell which parts contained the tests you thought were important.
