Things have reached breaking point with regards to noise. I have a small render farm, which by virtue of tight deadlines runs permanently, more or less.
As PCs get more powerful, so they have become noisier. Recently, the hums generated seem to be *almost* reinforcing each other creating an unsubtle low-frequency droning that can be hard from the bedroom. A stethescope reveals that no one PC is responsible. So, I wonder, what are the options for quiet PCs these days? I have the sneaking suspicion that the answer is "not much" and all the gear is going to have to go in an armour-plated shed. Even then I'll want quiet workstations. It could get very, very pricey and that's bad news right now.
