I have no idea honestly. I attended my first CLUG ( Caterbury LUG) meeting recently and there were about 35-50 people there (I was surprised to see that many honestly). I have only just started to think seriously about a course of action to take but one thing is clear, SOMETHING must be done. The waste of taxpayer money on proprietary products, especially in support of a proven illegal monopoly is disgusting. the uptake of Windows XP in NZ has been massive as is support in general for M$ products. In my opinion the government needs to take the lead in support of open source software and options to Microsft products. I think it would be good to either have a meeting to discuss this issue and plot a course of aggresive action and/or lobbying or converse via emial with interested parties to take action on this important matter. I am in Christchurch.

Is there an NZ petition yet?
What's the NZLUG population anyway? How many signatures could we collect
from just Linux abusers?
