And then you could buy Microsoft Office, and probably pay for the
licensing of the shareware software you'll be running, or put up with
adverts in the software. You'll also need to buy yourself a virus
scanner to stop those outlook viruses, they're just deadly. 

Debians good, takes a little longer to get to know than some other
distros, but it usually pays off in the long run ;)

Also with debian, if you have a decent internet connection, you'll only
need the first CD. Or even one of the debian mini-cd's (Theres a local
mirror at http://kosmic.samizdat.co.nz/debian-minicd/) and then you can
just apt-get everything else from the internet. I remember once
installing from only the first CD and a 33k modem.
