Which "real McCoy" are you talking about? JavaScript is not standardised, it was a Netscape creation. Microsoft's response was JScript. The real standard is ECMAScript, which provides a subset of the features provided by either major vendor's client-side scripting implementation.

True, but I'd be happier to accept Javascript as a standard than Jscript since the M$ product is nothing more than a bastardisation of the other.

Also, Javascript works essentially the same on Netscape/Moz/Opera/Konq,
and any other browser you might care to name, except MSIE...

My DHTML guidebook provides reference to how to create Javascript that
is MSIE and everything else friendly...essentially it involves putting
in a condition handler that invokes different code for different web-
browsers, which is too much work for me to be bothered with...
