you can install it while your mandrake box is still running. 

from mandrake mount your gentoo partitions and chroot into them. run
your install. If its hogging the cpu use something like.

nice -n 10 emerge kde

and it will give priority to other tasks, leaving your system nice (pun
intended) and usable.

configure your boot manager with the gentoo kernel etc and you have a
dual boot mandrake/gentoo system to play with.

so if you are still interested theres a way to have the best of both
worlds, a running functional system and gentoo installing itself in the
background.
