Perhaps Xsane does not set the focus distance correctly... (Have you tried the command line rather than the GUI?) I installed the latest version of gcc 2.96 from freshrpm's last night, and then tried to install the 2.96 version of Iscan. This time, Iscan installed without any problems - but does *nothing*. I doubt that the Iscan instalation broke the snae backend setup, because Xsane still works (crappely, but it *does* work). Oh, I wish the guys from Xsane and the guys from Iscan would start talking to each other! rgds J
