On my athlon 1133 with 512MB RAM dvd::rip is telling me it wants to take about 6 hours to turn the ripped 1.5 hour dvd into svcd format (size of two cd's).
The default setting for transcode is like that. My old cele 800 took days to transcode a DVD when i first, er backup up something :).
There is an option you can pass to transcode (don't remember what it is), that will gain you a few hours and you'll not notice much quality degredation.
My newish 2.4GHz P4 is rather a lot faster!
