I've been unable to find and DVD transcode mac/pc benchmarks - but I would expect a 867G4 to be about the same as a 2Ghz P4. I'm basing my opinion on photoshop, etc benchmarks that compare the best macs (dual 1.25Ghz g4's at the time) and best PCs (P4 3Ghz), the PCs blow the macs away for photoshop style operations. I am guessing that photoshop ops are fundamentally similar to DVD transcoding. The P4 CPUs are no slouch when it comes to integer math, I don't think the "Mac is best for photoshop" performance myth is relevent anymore. Can anyone enlighten me if I am way off base here?
