I wasnt trying to poke holes , 
I have a mate who has both ....encoding seems to be a strong point of the 
macosx/G4 combo ....he had run both machines side by side with the same dvd 
and the powerbook outperformed the athlon machine by a conciderable margin .
True these days P4/athlons are just as capable running PS etc style apps , but 
the mac still seems to have an edge in multimedia style tasks
