Notwithstanding the other lines of advice, of which finding a local expert is probably the most helpful;

Welcome to the complex *nix world - where someone, somewhere has usually created a fix for your situation, or you need to create one for us all.

The main answer to your dilemma rests with being able to continue attending the LUG meetings, where help is available. Perhaps Dunedin LUG is closer for travel purposes, & Philip Charles of Copyleft there also is an experienced service agent: http://www.copyleft.co.nz

Otherwise, we have meetings 22 July & 26 August here in Chch, at which the best possible solutions may be sought.

Have just been to the installfest and have Mandrake 10 installed. I certainly appreciate all the effort for no cost that people made however I have come away wondering what the point of it all was. I have a laptop and my modem (winmodem I guess) does not work with Mandrake - various people spent some time with it. My printer does not work - no drivers. Hence Linux is not a hell of a lot of use to me at present. I live in Wanaka - does anyone know of anyone in this area who could help - failing that how does one unistall linux to free up space that is of no use.
Any help appreciated.
