YaST on my laptop offered up slmodem for what SuSE detected; but installed, this driver crashes the box.
In the end success came quicker via Mandrake, & Linuxant's kernel-specific hsf driver.
SmartLink is a generic standard, I believe, that scanmodem returns on a diverse range of modems. Not believable in many cases imho.
Check what Windows says the modem is, & find a driver for that.
