Should everyone else forget to ask, the person wanting introductions should speak up for them at the time.
I don't recall ever having been to a CLUG meeting when there wasn't a new face. Many have disappeared over time though.
The assumption seems to be that if you keep attending the meetings, you'll steadily become familiar with some active names at least. Then you notice that these can disappear from sight and/or list too. Most don't seem to mind too much that the social side is slow, however, as they're there for the content anyway - which cannot be found educationally anywhere else in such advanced & freely accessible form.
More probably don't attend as they've become enabled with their chosen OS, and meetings offer them little now, as productive return on time. Changing this for bigger turnouts requires us getting the newbie/ advanced balance right for the future, it seems. Then there are those - like myself - for whom the sense of FOSS community is a very important aspect, and will hang in there regardless (count the Gentoo crew there - big ups).
And to clarify the term "membership" - someone may be able to offer a better handle for "we that populate the CLUG list, meetings and events". How about 'CLUG participants'? It doesn't seem to much matter, and there is certainly no formality to it. Quite the opposite in fact, for better or worse (only you/we collectively can decide that).

i have given a presentation on sTeam to a lug a few days ago and i observed an interresting tradition:
whenever there is a new person at the meeting then everyone introduces him/herself to the new one and of course the new one introduces him/herself too.
