Out of curiosity Vatsala, what made you choose Ubuntu Linux? The reason I ask this is that I cannot help but think that more help would be at hand for you from local users familiar with other distros which have been around a while longer. Ubuntu is a very new distro even though it is based on the very stable Debian.
Just a thought. BTW - with regards to a GUI html editor. I use Nvu too but it is not much different to Mozilla Composer which is probably easier for you to install (just install the Mozilla package). Regards, Robert -----Original Message----- From: ebhakta [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, 2 November 2004 3:14 p.m. To: Linux Users (Canterbury - NZ) Subject: GUI user... Greetings all! It should be made clear that GUI interface is the preferred method of operation for the tasks at hand (at least here), although it is obvious that the command-line aspect is the basis of the GUI, and the operating system. So, those who work with the command-line aspect are doing fundamental work. Having (personally) moved away from command-line work in the "other operating system" some years ago, and working primarily with GUI applications, in that system, the GUI interface has become the preferred interface for the tasks at hand (at least here). If one is to learn the (fundamental) command-line aspect (and there is no problem here in doing that), then that requires necessary tutoring, and the patience to assure proper understanding/comprehension. In using the the Ubuntu/Linux O/S, the GUI applications are what are preferred for the tasks at hand (at least here). In saying this, all respects and gratitude is given to those who work within the fundamentals of the command-line level of operation and development. Please do not be offended by the preferred level of operation here being GUI, and using GUI applications. Obviously there is much time and effort (and code) required for the creation of GUI applications, for which thanks are extended to the "Open Source" community for the development of those applications, especially for those who are accustomed to using other (proprietary) GUI operating systems. This user is not exceedingly technically astute. But does have tasks requiring and adequate GUI operating system (given the present/current set of circumstances). Hence the effort to figure/configure Linux on computers that have been designed for another (proprietary) operating system. As a "newbie" the need for help from those who are more capable in figuring/configuring the (GUI) operating system, and applications, to do the required tasks at hand, is essential. Without that help the system cannot be applied successfully on these machines. So, thanks for all help in the matter of getting these machines successfully figured/configured to operate under the Linux O/S, running the necessary (GUI) applications (primarily) which are required for the tasks at hand (tasks which still require the "other operating system" and its GUI applications). Obviously patience is very much needed in getting the Linux O/S figured and configured for operation on said machines. At least some progress has been made with getting the system installed and basic functionality established. Wishing well for all, always.
