It is likely to run your modem with much less fiddling, and give you more programs with less need to download (initially).
More people on-List are using the current SuSE, which has been around 6 months = more help.

The reason I ask this is that I cannot help but think that more help would be at hand for you from local users familiar with other distros which have been around a while longer. Ubuntu is a very new distro even though it is based on the very stable Debian.

BTW - with regards to a GUI html editor. I use Nvu too but it is not much different to Mozilla Composer which is probably easier for you to install (just install the Mozilla package).
