I'm in the Westfield shopping centre, Riccarton, on my lunch break. If you recall there is a wireless hotspot in the cinema foyer. Laptop is a ThinkPad 600e running Mepis 3.mumble from May. Sat down. Booted up. Removed Xircom ethernet/modem from PCMCIA. Plugged in Dick Smith 802.11 card and here I am! I'll do a summary of my Mepis experience later, but generally I am pretty pleased with it.
Speed is good enough, even for VNC. Anyway, auth.log tells me I am logged in from my own IP address. Grr! I only came in to check out the hotspot. Pretty neat, and the link has not been dropped yet (9 minutes since I made the ssh connection). Andy
