Not quite; just because the common default is "choose between KDE or GNOME" it doesn't mean that those are your *only* choices. Once your base OS is installed, you can put whetever you like on it. The best choice is "whatever you can get the most help with". There are people very experienced with SUSE, Ubuntu and Mephis active on this list, and most other choices are covered pretty well too. My personal recommendation is Ubuntu for someone who doesn't need to get under the hood too much. It'll do "the obvious stuff" very easily. -jim
